Wax Coated Paper

Wax Coated Paper

CoCopac supplies wax-coated paper for fresh and chilled food applications requiring a combination of moisture resistance, breathability and easy separation. A food-contact-approved wax coating is applied to a bleached kraft base paper on one or both sides, depending on the required specification.

Typical applications include fresh burger interleaves, deli and cheese wraps, tray liners and papers for fresh or chilled meat, fish and selected fruit products. Products can be supplied in standard or bespoke dimensions, with printed options available for suitable requirements.

Features

Wax-coated paper is a well-established food-packaging material for applications where a lightweight moisture barrier and a degree of breathability are needed. The right grade depends on the food, storage conditions, required strength and how the paper will be used.

Moisture-resistant barrier

The wax coating helps protect the base paper from moisture and provides a practical barrier for fresh and chilled foods. It can also help products separate more easily when used as an interleaving paper.

Bespoke sizes and formats

Wax-coated paper can be converted into sheets, reels, wraps, tray liners and interleaves. Dimensions can be developed around the product, pack or production equipment rather than being limited to standard sizes.

Printed options available

Selected wax-coated grades can be bespoke printed for branded wraps and food presentation. CoCopac can discuss artwork, colour requirements, quantities and the most appropriate base paper for the application.

Example Wax-Coated Paper Applications

Wax-coated paper can be converted for a variety of fresh and chilled food applications. The examples below illustrate common uses, although the final grade, coating and dimensions should be selected around the individual product and process.

Fresh Burger Interleaves

Wax-coated sheets or reels used to separate fresh burger patties during production, storage and handling.

Cheese and Deli Wraps

Breathable, moisture-resistant paper for wrapping cheese, cold meats and other chilled deli products.

Fresh Food Wraps and Tray Liners

Bespoke papers for fresh and chilled meat, fish and selected produce where a practical barrier between the food and packaging is required.

Wax Coated Paper FAQs

Common questions about the applications, formats and limitations of wax-coated food paper.

Wax-coated paper is kraft paper with a food-contact-approved wax coating applied to one or both sides. The coating provides resistance to moisture while retaining some breathability, making the paper useful for selected fresh and chilled foods.

Typical uses include fresh burgers, meat, fish, cheese, deli products and selected fruit applications. The correct grade should be chosen around the food, moisture level, temperature and required handling performance.

It should not be treated as general baking paper. The current wax-coated range is intended principally for ambient and chilled use. Applications involving heat should be discussed with CoCopac so that a suitable heat-resistant paper can be recommended.

Yes. Selected wax-coated papers can be printed for branded food wraps and presentation. The number of colours, artwork, paper grade, minimum volume and lead time will need to be confirmed for the individual project.

Vegetable-wax options may be considered where there is a suitable application and sufficient demand. Availability, performance and commercial quantities should be discussed with the CoCopac team before specification.
