Features

The absorbency, construction and dimensions can be tailored around the product and tray. Fish pads are generally designed to sit discreetly beneath the food, helping maintain a clean presentation without the pad extending unnecessarily beyond the product.

Fish pads developed around the pack

The correct specification depends on the seafood product, expected fluid level, tray dimensions and packing process. We can work from an existing sample or specification, or help identify a suitable starting point for trials.

Moisture and condensation management

Fish and seafood packs can involve relatively high fluid levels, as well as condensation during chilled handling or following selected processing methods. The absorbency should be matched to the application to reduce pooling and leakage within the pack.

Discreet, bespoke dimensions

Fish pads are commonly sized to remain completely beneath the fillet or seafood product. Bespoke dimensions help provide the required absorbency while keeping the pad unobtrusive within the finished pack.

Example Fish Pad Applications

The examples below illustrate common applications, although the final absorbency, dimensions and construction should be selected for the individual product and process.

Fresh Fish Fillets

Bespoke absorbent pads for products such as salmon and white-fish fillets, sized to sit discreetly beneath the product within the tray.

Shellfish Packaging

Pads for shellfish and prepared seafood applications where moisture or condensation needs to be managed within the pack.

Retail Seafood Trays

Absorbent formats for supermarket and foodservice packs, developed around the tray dimensions, presentation requirements and expected fluid levels.

Fish Pad FAQs

Common questions about selecting the right absorbency, dimensions and format for fish and seafood packaging.

Fish pads often need to manage relatively high levels of moisture and condensation while remaining discreetly beneath the product. The required specification will depend on the fish or seafood type, tray dimensions, chilled handling and packing process.

Fish pads can be used for applications including fresh fillets, shellfish and prepared seafood products. The correct absorbency and construction should be selected around the individual food and pack rather than by product name alone.

Yes. Fish pads can be supplied as individual cut pads or in reel format, subject to the production process, required dimensions and specification.

Yes. An existing sample or technical specification can help us assess the dimensions, construction and absorbency currently being used. We can then discuss a comparable option or whether a different specification may be more appropriate.

CoCopac’s main focus is pads for retail and processed fish packs. Larger sealed-edge pads used in polystyrene transport boxes may also be sourced where required, although these are not manufactured directly by CoCopac.

Yes. Once we understand the seafood product, pack dimensions, expected fluid levels and likely order volumes, we can discuss suitable samples or a production trial.
