Fruit Pads
CoCopac supplies absorbent fruit pads for soft fruit punnets and trays, in both Polyethylene coated and Paper-Based Pads helping to manage moisture while supporting cushioning and product presentation.
Features
Our fruit pads are primarily supplied to tray and punnet manufacturers, with formats developed around the produce, pack dimensions and handling requirements. Paper-based and coated options are available in cut-pad or reel formats, depending on the application.
Fruit pads developed around the pack
Fruit pads perform a different role from the higher-absorbency products commonly used for meat and fish. The emphasis is generally on controlled moisture management, cushioning and presentation within soft-fruit packaging.
Moisture management
Low-level absorption helps remove excess surface moisture from direct contact with delicate fruit. The correct specification will depend on the produce, expected moisture level and journey through packing, storage and retail.
Cushioning and presentation
Fruit pads can provide a softer base for delicate produce while helping to create a clean, consistent appearance within the punnet or tray.
Example Fruit Pad Applications
Our fruit pads are primarily designed for soft-fruit punnets and trays. The examples below illustrate typical uses, although the final dimensions, construction and format will depend on the particular packaging application.
Raspberry Punnets
Low-absorbency pads developed to help manage moisture and support delicate fruit within retail punnets.
Strawberry Trays
Bespoke pad formats designed around the base dimensions of the tray and its presentation requirements.
Soft-Fruit Packaging
Pads for berries and other delicate produce where moisture management, cushioning and pack appearance are important.
Fruit Pad FAQs
Common questions about materials, formats and selecting fruit pads for soft-fruit packaging.
How are fruit pads different from meat or fish pads?
Fruit pads generally use much lower levels of absorbency. Their role is usually to manage light surface moisture while also supporting cushioning and presentation, rather than absorbing the higher volumes of liquid associated with meat or fish packs.
Which fruit products are they suitable for?
They are primarily used for soft-fruit applications, including berries packed in punnets or trays. The appropriate construction will depend on the fruit, pack design, moisture level and handling conditions.
Are fruit pads available in bespoke sizes?
Yes. Pads can be converted around the dimensions of the punnet or tray rather than being limited to a small range of standard sizes. Cut pads and reel-fed formats are available.
Are paper-based fruit pads available?
Yes. The majority of CoCopac’s fruit-pad production uses paper-based materials, although polyethylene-coated versions are also available for applications requiring different cushioning or moisture-management properties. The appropriate option should be selected around the complete pack specification.
Are fruit pads recyclable?
This depends on the material construction, how the pad has been used and the requirements of the relevant waste stream. Paper-based options can be considered where recyclability and cellulose content are important, but the final claim should be confirmed against the exact product specification and application.
Which colours and finishes are available?
Black is commonly supplied, with some red options also available. Products may be supplied in paper-based or polyethylene-coated constructions, with patterned or plain finishes depending on the requirement.
Can you review our existing pad or tray?
Yes. An existing sample, tray drawing or technical specification can help us assess the dimensions, material and construction currently being used before recommending a suitable option.
